Umami Burger Has Arrived in Anaheim!! (And Laguna, too!)

It’s here! It’s finally here! Umami Burger, the burger sensation sweeping our SoCal Nation, just opened its largest Orange County location in the Anaheim Packing District, just around the corner from Downtown Anaheim.

This 120-seat restaurant is adjacent to Anaheim Brewery and has two large open-air patios to enjoy any one of their delightful burgers.

Although the Umami menu remains the same throughout the other locations; there is always a specialty burger that holds a unique connection to the community. Anaheim’s specialty burger is the Welsh Rabbit Burger, a house beef patty with broiled cheese sauce and house made pickles.

What does a Welsh Rabbit have to do Anaheim? Well, one of the town’s central locations for many years was the Anaheim Packing House and also on the Anaheim Packing District. Welsh Rabbit, also called Welsh Rarebit, was very popular in the United States, around 1919 when the Packing House was first built. The Anaheim location will also serve the Absinthe Root Beer Float, a root beer topped with Absinthe Ice Cream from L.A. Creamery.

There is a lot of history in the Anaheim location. Umami Burger is housed in the 1925 restored Packard car showroom. In classic Umami style, their creative team made chandeliers and light fixtures from 1929 California license plates, found during the recent re-construction process. This modern twist is a nod to the elegant 1920s decor of car showrooms.

Umami Laguna opened in June and features the Lemon Miso Crab Melt 15, a
jumbo lump crab with burrata cheese, baby heirloom tomatoes, lemon miso dressing. The Laguna Beach locale is designed around boardwalks and beach themes.  The Crab Melt is an Umami take on a seafood classic for the Beach community.

Umami Burger opened its first location in February 2009 on La Brea in Los Angeles. Owner Adam Fleishman created his burger sensation by focusing on savory sensations, the fifth taste according to the Japanese, the other flavors are sweet, sour, bitter and sour. Umami Burger enjoyed its first bump toward success when GQ Magazine honored them with Burger of the Year. Then, Ashton Kutcher tweeted about them, and ever since there’s been a line out the door. And for good reason, these burgers are good enough to even make this vegetarian fall off the all green bandwagon every once in awhile!
