Orange County Resorts with Class(es)

Orange County is lucky enough to be home to several great resorts, each offering its own wonderful slice of the Orange County experience. While most people associate the resort experience with spa, pool, and escape, what they might not realize is that many resorts offer great classes to guests and visitors alike. Many resorts offer classes such as yoga and Pilates through their spa or fitness centers but the offerings don't stop there! Here is a sampling of some of the varied classes, available to adults as well as children, at Orange County resorts.

Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort & Spa

Toes on the Nose Surf Lessons. Is there any better place to learn how to surf than on the waves of Surf City, USA? We don't think so! Toes on the Nose at Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach provides wetsuits, boards, and great instructors determined to help you "hang ten" on some of the best waves Southern California has to offer. Surf lessons are also available at St. Regis Monarch Beach, The Resort at Pelican Hill, and The Ritz Carlton Laguna Niguel.

Stand-up Paddleboarding Lessons. Stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) has become all the rage in the waters of Southern California. The Ritz offers guests two hours of private instruction in the calm waters of Dana Point Harbor. Contact the hotel for details and availability.

“Flash! Snap! Crop!” Videography classes for kids. The Ritz Carlton offers guests young and old all sorts of fun experiences revolving around ecology and the ocean. Flash! Snap! Crop! is a fun half-day program which has youngsters write, direct, and star in their very own video that is centered around ecological issues. $90 per person.   

St. Regis Monarch Beach

Mixology Classes. Learn how to make delicious margaritas or perfect Bloody Mary's at one of St. Regis' monthly mixology classes. Light appetizers and hand-crafted cocktails are included. $45 per person, reservations recommended.

Montage Laguna Beach

Surfset Wellness Classes. The Montage's Surfset program is inspired by surfing, using real surfing techniques to build balance, strengthen your core, and improve aerobic condition. These private sessions can be purchased in single, weekend warrior, and Hang Ten (i.e.: ten session) packages. Group classes in all sorts of disciplines -- yoga, cycling, and even aqua exercise -- are also available.

The Resort at Pelican Hill

Competitive Teens Junior Golf Academy. Is your teen a great golfer? This golf class is designed to help intermediate and advanced teen golfers, ages 12-16, prepare for tournaments, high school team play, and even entry-level Southern California PGA tour events. Taught by Tim Mitchell, PGA Certified Gold Instructor, this clinic is for kids can score under 45 (boys) and under 50 (girls) for nine holes. $60 per student per session; pre-registration required

Half-Day Lower Your Scores School. If you are looking to improve your golf score, this is the class for you! Four separate classes are available: full swing fundamentals; putting school; playing school; and pitching, chipping, and bunker school. $225 per student per half-day clinic; see website for more information. Full day and two-day weekend classes are also available.

Children's Resort Etiquette Class. This class, led by The Etiquette School of Beverly Hill and Newport Beach founder Kathleen Cover, teaches children social, travel, and dining etiquette in a positive and approachable environment. Classes are 2.5 hours long and children are separated into ages group, ages 5-7 or ages 8-12. $125 per child, per class; pre-registration available.
